Vervain’s name derives, according to a couple writers, from Herba veneris on account of the aphrodisiac properties attributed to it by the Ancients. The priests used it for sacrifices, hence, the name Sacred Herb (Herba sacra). The Druids used it in preparing lustral water. Magicians and witches also used it extensively. – In herbal health, Verbena officinalls was once thought to be an astringent, resolvent, diaphoretic, antispasmodic and vulnerary. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the bags. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste.
