Description
Angelica archangelica, often referred to as garden angelica, wild celery, and Norwegian angelica, is a biennial plant from the Apiaceae circle of relatives, a subspecies of which is cultivated for its sweetly scented fit to be eaten stems and roots. Angelica archangelica grows wild in Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland, mostly within the northern parts of the countries. It’s cultivated in France, basically within the Marais Poitevin, a marsh region with reference to Niort within the department Deux-Sèvres. From the 10th century on, angelica was once cultivated as a vegetable and medicinal plant, and achieved popularity in Scandinavia within the 12th century and is still used these days, especially in Sami culture.
