Cassia is one of 4 aromatic ingredients to be mixed with olive oil for the making of sacred anointing oil, according to God’s instructions to Moses in Exodus 30:23-33. It is a dried bark rolled in sticks or grounded, very similar to cinnamon in taste and sweet fragrance, widely used as spice. In ancient times it was once also a valued perfume.
