The aroma is stronger, has a sweeter, peppery flavor somewhat paying homage to star anise, and it comes with hearty purple stems. Fresh basil is added to a lot of soups and curry, in addition to a popular garnish to be eaten fresh. Vietnamese cooking uses this abundantly as well.
