How to Get Your Dog’s Measurements There are three main areas to measure on your dog: top line back, neck girth, and chest girth. Step one is to measure their length and that most often means taking a tape measure or ruler and measuring the length from the back of their neck to the tail area. After you’ve measured their length than measure the girth around their bodies from the middle of their spinal area and around the thickest girth around their belly area. Measure the width of your dog’s neck to fit. Measure from the top of the dog’s chest, completely around its neck. Leave it loose enough to be able to easily fit 2 fingers underneath of it.
